Aloha!
Who never woke up in the morning saying : "I will never drink again!" ... I did!
I have terrible headaches when I drink, and it doesn't have to be a lot.....
It's not only the physical disconfort, is the emotional disconfort too! Surfing the day after a party feels weard... for me only, maybe... I'm not that strong, I'm not that brave. I feel ... vulnerable.
But today, I want to talk about how I overcome bad habits.
Our brain is incredibly efficient in reducing complex decisions to either "yes" , or "no". Usually, your habit wins. What you're most used to do, requires the least strenght, that's why we should act right away when implementing a "new" habit.
I have a few tips, although they're not easy, they work for me.
1) New habits, require new environment and new companies.
I'm very much influenced by the place where I am at and the people I'm surrounded by.
If you can not run, try to hide. I mean, stay home, read a book, write, whatch a movie, but don't go out with people who are not on the same mood.
If you can't run away from your family, at least 1 or 2 nights a week, say goodnight before they get you crazy or wake up earlier than usual and do what you want to do: exercice, meditate, eat right, cook, fast.
2) Before you act, stop, breath and write the consequences of what you're about to do. Draw a picture of it. If it's eat a piece of cake, or smoke, or drink, draw how you're gonna be like after you do it, in an hour, in a day, in a lifetime with this habit. And now do the opposite, draw you without that compulsion.
3) Find good sources of informations, that will keep you motivated. Search for instagram posts, that only make you feel good about yourself, and that inspires you somehow and tag them. Read, listen to podcasts (I specially love doing this, since I can listen to interesting things while driving, cleaning, cooking, resting), or listen to music that suits your higher self!
Discipline is the key to greater achievements.
